Learn more about Summer ServiceWhat is the Summer Service Program?
The Summer Service Program is a 6-10 week leadership development program that allows young adults to serve in their home communities. Participants spend their summer working with local churches or non-profits. Who decides what kind of service I will be doing over the summer?
You do! With the help of your local Mennonite congregation or agency, you will craft a service proposal that details what kinds of activities, events, and work you will be doing for the summer. Proposals which reflect a strong commitment to peace, social justice, and community will be prioritized. In terms of submitted proposals, these proposals span the gamete of creativity! Proposals range anywhere from the young adult and church community hosting various community educational forums to that of running summer peace camps, health and wellness fairs and offering immigration support services. Others include but are not limited to theatre arts and creative music and dance programming, education and awareness of conscientious objection status to that of conducting a community census for the church to better understand regional demographics in order to provide appropriate church/community support services. Who can apply?
To participate in the program you must be an African-American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino or Native American between the ages of 18-30, have a high school diploma or GED, and be committed to making a difference in your community. Why should I apply?
- Earn a summer stipend of $2,500. - Sharpen your leadership skills and learn about yourself. - Meet other young adults who are equally passionate about their community. - Learn how faith and action go hand in hand How do I apply?
