New Orleans

Pam Nath, Community Organizer for MCC Central States has been working in New Orleans since August 2007.  She works alongside individuals and groups who are struggling against racial, economic, and other forms of oppression.  Public housing residents and other renters have faced many obstacles and received little help in their efforts to return home after Katrina.  Pam is a steering committee member for a newly forming tenants rights union that is organizing renters with the goal of improving the conditions they face as the result of unjust housing policies and practices.  She also works closely with Survivors Village, a group of former residents of the St. Bernard housing development and their supporters.  Survivors Village has been fighting for the right to return to their homes and their neighborhoods since Katrina.  Pam is also working at building community among white antiracists who are working for justice issues.  One additional issue she has gotten quite involved with--partly because of personal experiences with friends of color--is police brutality, harassment, and racial profiling.
